Ryan Garcia vs. Luke Campbell – Boxing Daily Betting Preview

Ryan Garcia

The first fight of 2021 goes down this Saturday (January 2). It’ll be the toughest test Ryan Garcia has faced in his blossoming career as he takes on Olympic gold medallist and two-time world title challenger Luke Campbell at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. The winner of this highly anticipated match-up will go on to face WBC lightweight champion, Devin Haney. The Favourite – Ryan Garcia

At just 22-years-old and in the biggest fight of his life Ryan Garcia finds himself a sizeable -350 favourite. This may be surprising to some, but the youngster has barely put a foot wrong throughout his 20-fight career and many believe he is the future. Garcia is a puncher and 17 of his wins have come inside the scheduled distance. He could well become the first man to stop Luke Campbell this weekend and if you fancy Garcia by stoppage the odds are -105.

The Underdog – Luke Campbell

Campbell despite being a pretty big (+260) underdog is a very live one in our opinion. He fell short against Vasyl Lomachenko and Jorge Linares but looked good against both men. The Brit is fairly big for the weight, clearly talented, and has shown no weakness in terms of his ability to take a shot. Campbell has fallen short against elite level fighters but his opponent has never fought anyone remotely close to world class. Perhaps Saturday is the night Campbell gets over the hump and establishes himself among the best at lightweight.

Prediction

We at Boxingdaily.com are backing Luke Campbell to pull off the upset and inflict a first loss on Ryan Garcia. There’re a few reasons for this pick. First, Campbell is older and more experienced. He’s fought at top-level and been fairly impressive. After a couple of failed world title bids, we expect him to come back stronger than ever and look to make a statement against a young fighter who may not be ready for world level. Garcia is jumping a couple of levels for this fight and it’ll be interesting to see how he looks. However, at odds of -350, he’s just not worth betting on. Ultimately we see Campbell edging this fight out via the judge’s cards and will be betting on him to do so at odds of +550.
