Sebastian Fundora Admits He’s Watching Tszyu-Murtazaliev Closely
Sebastian Fundora says he’ll be paying close attention to the Tim Tszyu vs. Bakram Murtazaliev fight on Saturday.
Fundora upset Tszyu earlier this year in a back-and-forth fight. Since the win, Fundora doesn’t have his next fight booked, but his promoter says a Tszyu rematch could be next.
“That is a great possibility, a major possibility,” Fundora promoter Sampson Lewkowicz said to BoxingScene when asked if Tszyu has the opportunity with a Saturday victory to emerge as Fundora’s next foe. “We’re waiting to see how (Tszyu) looks, and we can make it happen. Nothing else is set in stone. (Tszyu) would be a great fight. Sebastian will fight anybody, and we promised we would fight (Tszyu).”
Another fight for Fundora would be a bout against Errol Spence Jr., which would be a big payday. However, Lewkowicz says nothing is set in stone.
But, the promoter says Sebastian Fundora is in a good spot as he has options for his next fight which not every boxer has.
“We have options that not every fighter has,” Fundora promoter Lewkowicz said. “So we will wait and see.”
Although Lewkowicz thinks a Tszyu rematch makes sense, the former champ revealed his ideal next opponents and didn’t mention Fundora, so whether or not he has any interest in the rematch is to be seen.
“Right now a perfect 2025 would be fighting Terence Crawford, Errol Spence Jr, and Jermell Charlo,” Tszyu told BoxingScene. “But people’s stocks go up and down every month and the dynamic changes with new winners and losers.”
Sebastian Fundora is 21-1-1 and is coming off a split decision win over Tim Tszyu to become the WBO and WBC light middleweight champion. Before that, Fundora was knocked out by Brian Mendoza. In his career, Fundora has notable wins over Carlos Ocampo, Erickson Lubin, and Jorge Cota.
