Sebastian Fundora Not Interested In Ryan Garcia Fight
Sebastian Fundora doesn’t have an interest in boxing Ryan Garcia in the future.
After Garcia beat Devin Haney by decision, he called out Fundora for a fight, which many fans were interested in. However, Fundora doesn’t have any interest in the bout, as he thinks the size and weight are too much.
“He’s not in my weight class,” Fundora told Fight Hub TV. “He’s coming up from 140; it’s like when Kell Brook fought GGG. It’s a different fight, of course, but you know that’s two weight classes down. We will see if he really does come up to 154. If he doesn’t, it’s all good, I don’t care.”
Although Fundora doesn’t think the fight makes sense due to the weight, the fact Garcia tested positive for PEDs also may have an impact on his decision to not want to fight him. But, Fundora is hopeful that Garcia didn’t take anything knowingly and didn’t cheap.
“I hope it’s not true,” Fundora said. “Because that was a good win for him. But if it is, that’s very disappointing. He proved a lot of people wrong, so to hear something like that – it’s not good.”
Sebastian Fundora is coming off an upset split decision win over Tim Tszyu to win the WBO and WBC light middleweight titles. It was a stunning win as Fundora stepped up on short notice to get the title fight after he was knocked out by Brian Mendoza in the fight before.
Ryan Garcia, meanwhile, is 25-1 and coming off an upset win over Devin Haney, but missed weight in the bout so he did not become the new champion. His lone loss came by TKO to Gervonta Davis in April of 2023.
