Shakur Stevenson Details Potential Opponent Shuichiro Yoshino’s Skills: ‘It Let Us Know That He Solid’
Shakur Stevenson has had trouble getting an opponent but is now linked to Shuichiro Yoshino.
Stevenson was ordered by the WBC to fight Isaac Cruz but Cruz is expected to face someone else next and William Zepeda reportedly turned the fight down. With that, Yoshino is a potential opponent but Stevenson is confident he would win with ease.
“I think that we gotta rate him with his performance with Nakatani, being that Nakatani fought Teofimo, went 12 rounds,” Stevenson said on the DAZN boxing show. “I think he lost on a majority decision. I may be wrong – I don’t remember. But then [Nakatani] fought Lomachenko. He ain’t do too good with Lomachenko, but he end up getting stopped later on in the fight. And then [Nakatani] fought Yoshino, and [Yoshino] stopped him faster than anybody. And he actually really knocked him out or something like that. So, we know he got power. We know he’s tough. And for him to beat that dude [Nakatani] – and he beat Ito – it let us know that he solid.”
Yoshino is a perfect 16-0 and is coming off two impressive wins over Masayuki Ito and Masayoshi Nakatani. Yet, he still is not the big name that Stevenson is after due to the fact several fighters have turned him down.
“I think it’s sad,” Stevenson said a few weeks ago. “I think boxing is in a sad state, when fighters can just duck and get away with it. I think that the fans and everybody allowed them to duck. Nobody really got on top of them the way that if I was to do something like that, or Devin, or let’s say anybody you know in the sport—If they do that they (the fans) gonna hop on they ass, so honestly I feel like boxing is just getting said that they allow fighters to duck like that. I don’t know what boxing got going on. It’s not good. I think people should challenge, test themselves out [against those who are] good.”
