Shakur Stevenson Open To Joining Mayweather Promotions
Shakur Stevenson is open to joining Mayweather Promotions as he fought out his deal with Top Rank.
Stevenson picked up a decision win over Artem Harutyunyan in his hometown of Newark, New Jersey on Saturday and he is now a free agent. Entering free agency, Stevenson says he’s open to joining Mayweather Promotions as he does have a good relationship with Floyd Mayweather.
“It’s an option, for sure,” Stevenson told CigarTalk (via BoxingScene). “I got nothing but respect and love for Floyd. At the end of the day, I wouldn’t mind working with Floyd as long as it makes sense, and it is a partnership type of thing. I appreciate Floyd… Even after this fight he called me and told me little things I could have done better.”
Stevenson says he and Mayweather have had a good relationship for years and he is someone he goes to, to talk about boxing to learn from him.
“Before him and Tank were beefing, we have been where we at with it,” Stevenson said. “We’d sit in the Girl Collection [Floyd Mayweather’s strip club] at 3, 4, 5, 6 a.m. talking about boxing — no cap.”
Whether or not Mayweather Promotions will want to sign Shakur Stevenson is uncertain, but he would be a big addition for the promotion.
Shakur Stevenson is 22-0 and is coming off a decision win over Artem Harutyunyan. Stevenson is the current WBC lightweight champion and in his career, he has notable wins over Jamel Herring, Oscar Valdez, Robson Conceicao, and Shuichiro Yoshino among others.
