Shakur Stevenson Vows To Make A Statement To Fans And Promoters
Shakur Stevenson promises to make a statement against Artem Harutyunyan on Saturday night at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Stevenson is fighting out his contract with Top Rank and is set to enter free agency. Heading into the fight, Stevenson is a sizeable betting favorite and he vows to make a statement with his performance.
“I’m going to take him to a level he’s never been on,” said Stevenson during Wednesday’s final press conference. “I’m just going to be myself. I’m going to come out and show my talent and show my levels. I think I’m one of the best in the sport of boxing at hit-and-don’t-get-hit. There’s a certain way of doing that, and I want to show the fans that all that moving around is something I don’t really have to do. I can sit in the pocket and beat you up, too.”
Shakur Stevenson is entering the final fight of his deal and he says he believes Top Rank has stalled his career and he’s ready to get big opportunities next time out.
“Yeah [I was pleased] up to how I started getting bigger like as far as notoriety. In that process, we were doing good,” said Stevenson. “Once I got to 135 pounds everything kind of slowed down. I feel as though [Top Rank] could have given me the Kambosos fight like they gave Lomachenko. But they didn’t do that. I felt that we could have put a little bit more pressure on Lomachenko to make the fight happen but they didn’t do that. When I got to 135, my notoriety got bigger, and then things changed.”
Shakur Stevenson enters his fight with a 21-0 record.
