Showtime’s Stephen Espinoza ‘Optimistic’ Errol Spence Jr. vs. Terence Crawford ‘Gets Done’
Showtime’s Stephen Espinoza thinks Errol Spence Jr. vs. Terence Crawford will get made.
Spence Jr. vs. Crawford has been one of the biggest fights to make in boxing but it has yet to be made for a variety of reasons. The two were supposed to fight in October but it fell apart and Crawford ended up facing David Avanesyan.
Now, both sides want to get it done and Espinoza says they are optimistic they can make Spence Jr. vs. Crawford.
“There’s still a ways to go, but we are making progress,” Espinoza told BoxingScene.com following the final Davis-Garcia press conference at MGM Grand’s KA Theatre. “It’s been slow progress, but we’re closer now than we were in the fall. I’m a firm believer that it’s not done until it’s done. You know, we’ve been close before, so I’m gonna be conservative. But overall, I’m optimistic that it gets done.”
With Errol Spence Jr. vs. Terence Crawford being such a massive fight, many have thought Showtime will announce it on Saturday on the Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia fight. However, Espinoza says that won’t be the case.
“Now there’s been the rumor about something happening on Saturday,” Espinoza said in reference to an official announcement on Davis-Garcia fight night. “You know, something could happen at any moment. You could have a breakthrough, get things done and signed. But there is nothing planned at this point, as we sit here, for this Saturday. But I’m optimistic that in the near future we’ll have something to announce.”
Even though it may not be announced on Saturday night, the good news for boxing fans is it appears that Errol Spence Jr. vs. Terence Crawford is trending in the right direction for it to happen this year.
