Teddy Atlas Believes Anthony Joshua Has Been ‘Overrated’ Throughout His Career
Teddy Atlas thinks Anthony Joshua has been overrated and overhyped throughout his career.
Joshua is coming off back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk and although he is a two-time heavyweight champ, Atlas doesn’t think Joshua is as good as many expected. He’s an Olympic gold medalist but has been outclassed against the best in the division and for Atlas, he says that proves Joshua is overrated.
“With respect, fans in the UK love a good loser. [Joshua] knocked out Charles Martin, who’s not on anybody’s list of great fighters, to win the title. He’s been an overrated guy,” Atlas said on his podcast (h/t BoxingScene). “I can’t say it any clearer or give you any better reason for it. Who has he beat? I say it again, who has he beat? He’s lost and he’s lost by knockout. Alright, the last two to Usyk, he got hurt, he lost by decision, he showed heart. But he got knocked out by Ruiz who took the fight on last minute notice. I really believe that Joshua has always been overrated, but he can bring in big money.”
Although Teddy Atlas thinks Anthony Joshua is overrated, the Brit will have a chance to shock the world when he faces Tyson Fury on December 3. The two sides agreed to a deal on Tuesday but whether or not it will happen is still to be seen.
Anthony Joshua (24-3), as mentioned, is coming off back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk while before that, he KO’d Kubrat Pulev and defeated Andy Ruiz Jr. to reclaim his heavyweight titles. He suffered his first career loss in stunning fashion as he suffered a TKO loss to Ruiz Jr. at Madison Square Garden in his first and only fight in the United States.
Do you agree with Teddy Atlas that Anthony Joshua is overrated?
