Teddy Atlas Had Tyson Fury Beating Francis Ngannou, Felt The Brit Was Unprepared
Teddy Atlas thought Tyson Fury was the rightful winner against Francis Ngannou, but knows the Brit wasn’t as prepared as he should have been.
Fury and Ngannou were fighting on Saturday in Saudi Arabia in a very intriguing bout. Heading into the fight, Tyson Fury was a massive betting favorite and many expected him to cruise to a win. Yet, that wasn’t the case at all, as instead, Ngannou dropped Fury and the fight was competitive.
When the final bell rang, many were torn on who won, but Fury ended up winning a split decision. However, Teddy Atlas thought Fury won 97-93.
“My final score – 97-93 for Mr. Fury and like I said [in] my comments, lots of posturing, feinting, half jabs, lot of looking, could have been more even rounds possibly,” Atlas stated on The Fight with Teddy Atlas (h/t BoxingScene).
Although many were shocked that Francis Ngannou dropped Tyson Fury, Teddy Atlas wasn’t, as he knew the former UFC heavyweight champion had crazy power.
Ultimately, Atlas thought Fury just didn’t take Ngannou seriously and wasn’t as prepared as he should have been.
“[Fury was] not unprepared physically but perhaps mentally. [Ngannou] was the puncher in this fight no doubt about it. Fury is a terrific fighter, a terrific boxer and everything else but he’s not the pure puncher. He’s a big guy, he hits you, he knocks out certain guys, he knocked out Wilder twice I mean, he hits you with all that size, he hits you right of course he’s a puncher but pure TNT, only certain guys have it and I think the guy who really had it that night in a pure way is probably Ngannou,” Atlas said.
