Teofimo Lopez Criticizes Jamaine Ortiz: ‘These Fighters Don’t Want To Come And Fight’
Teofimo Lopez was frustrated with the way Jamaine Ortiz fought him on Thursday night.
Lopez was defending his WBO and The Ring titles at 140lbs, and the American entered the fight as the betting favorite as many expected him to get the win. However, the fight was much closer than people think but Lopez puts blame on Ortiz as he says he didn’t want to fight.
“These fighters don’t want to come and fight,” Lopez said (via ESPN). “If you ain’t ready for this life, get the f— out of my sport. I am a champion. I bleed for this and I sweat for this and I cry for this. Every time.”
In the fight, Lopez landed 78 punches while Ortiz landed 80 as it was a lackluster performance from both of them.
Although Teofimo Lopez was annoyed that Jamaine Ortiz didn’t want to fight him, Ortiz thought he should have gotten his hand raised, which many fans tend to agree with.
“I believe I won the fight,” said Ortiz “What can I say, I came out on the short end of the stick once again. He couldn’t hit me. … He wasn’t landing any shots on me. … I always stay true to who I am. … Make some adjustments and come back for another title shot.”
With the loss, Ortiz fell to 17-2-1, and to earn the title shot, he beat Antonio Moran after losing a decision to Vasyl Lomachenko.
Teofimo Lopez, meanwhile, improved to 20-1 as a pro and is now on a four-fight win streak. It was his first title defense against Ortiz after he beat Josh Taylor back in June to win the titles.
