Teofimo Lopez Sr. Predicts His Son Will Be Two-Time Undisputed Champ By 2024
Teofimo Lopez Sr. believes his son – Teofimo Lopez – will be a two-time undisputed champion within two more years.
Lopez became the unified lightweight champ in September of 2020 as he stunned many with a decision win over Vasyl Lomachenko. Yet, he lost his next fight to George Kambosos Jr. and he then moved up in weight. In his first fight in the new weight class, he beat Pedro Campa by TKO and will now face Sandor Martin on December 10 – after Jose Pedraza withdrew.
Now, ahead of the matchup, Lopes Sr. makes it clear their team wants to face Josh Taylor in the very near future.
“We definitely want that Josh Taylor fight right after [the fight Martin fight],” said Lopez Sr. during an interview with AB Boxing News. “We’re not overlooking [Martin], we gotta get through him first.”
Teofimo Lopez is currently 17-1 as a pro and should he get past Martin, it would be a big win in his nee weight class. And, given the fact he is a former champ, perhaps he does get the fight with Taylor as his dad wants.
But, regardless if it happens next, Lopez Sr. makes it known that Lopez will be a two-time undisputed champion by 2024.
“We’re coming out here to become undisputed back-to-back. So who the hell we gotta get through to get that, we’re going to make it happen,” Lopez Sr. said. “I predict my son will be a two-time undisputed champion before the year 2024. If not, 2024. He’ll be a two-time undisputed champion.”
