Teofimo Lopez vs. George Kambosos Jr. Has Been Postponed
Teofimo Lopez and George Kambosos Jr. will no longer face off on Triller pay-per-view this coming weekend.
The unified lightweight champion was supposed to make a mandatory defence of his IBF title on Saturday evening.
According to Mike Coppinger the fight and the entire card have now been rescheduled due to Lopez testing positive for COVID-19. He’ll now square off against Kambosas on August 14.
BREAKING: @triller founder @RyanKavanaugh tells me Teofimo Lopez tested positive for COVID this morning after a PCR test and is symptomatic,” Coppinger wrote on social media. “As a result, his four-belt lightweight title fight vs. George Kambosos, set for Saturday, is being moved to Aug. 14, along with undercard”
Lopez is 16-0 as a pro and if he beats Kambosos on August 14 he has tons of options for his next fight. He could rematch Lomachenko or face either Haney, Ryan Garcia, or Tank Davis which would all be highly anticipated bouts.
Kambosos earned his shot at the champion with split decision win over Lee Selby in October. The 27-year-old boasts an undefeated record after 19 professional fights.
