Terence Crawford vs. Kell Brook Talks Have Begun According To Eddie Hearn
WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford is currently in negotiations to fight former IBF welterweight champion, Kell Brook, according to the Englishman’s promoter Eddie Hearn. Speaking to IFL TV Hearn revealed he is in talks with Top Rank about making the fight and helping his American rival try to generate the money needed to put on a fight of this magnitude, he said.
“I had a couple of conversations with Bob [Arum] and [Top Rank VP of operations] Carl Moretti yesterday. And I feel that’s a big fight for UK TV, so we’re trying to help out and get that over the line. I would love to see Kell get that fight. I think [Top Rank] had a conversation with Keith Thurman, and obviously they wanted too much money. It’s difficult at the moment … Crawford wants a lot of money, and Kell wants a lot of money. He deserves it. We’re trying to make that fight happen to assist Top Rank in getting the numbers together.” (Transcribed by Boxing Scene)
Crawford was open to fighting Keith Thurman but the negotiations quickly came to a standstill after ‘One Time’ reportedly asked for in excess of $10million for the bout.
‘Bud’ was last seen in action in December 2019, successfully defending his WBO strap against Egidijus Kavaliauskas. Prior to that he beat Brook’s long-time rival Amir Khan inside six rounds. Crawford holds several other high profile wins over the likes of Jeff Horn, Julius Indongo, Viktor Postol and Ray Beltran.
Brook has struggled for momentum since losing back-to-back fight against Gennady Golovkin and Errol Spence a few years ago. Prior to that he held the IBF welterweight title which he had taken from Shawn Porter in the biggest win of his career to date. He made several uninspiring defences before surrendering his title to Spence in 2017.
