Tim Tszyu’s Team Says He Wants To Fight, Waiting For Jermall Charlo Is Not An Option
Tim Tszyu is still wanting to fight.
Tszyu was supposed to face Jermall Charlo on January 28 in an undisputed title fight. It was going to be a highly-anticipated fight but just a few days ago, Charlo suffered a broken left hand forcing him to pull out of the fight.
The hope for many is the fight would be postponed so this matchup would still happen. However, according to Glen Jennings, Tszyu’s career-long manager, said they are working on getting Tim a fight ASAP.
“Just a quick update as to where to from here, since Charlo injury postponed Jan. 28 undisputed title (fight),” Jennings announced on Monday. “Team Tszyu will continue on in camp USA whilst (promoter) Matt Rose and I are working to find a replacement fight for Tim to keep busy. You all know Tim can’t sit around waiting, so we are exploring all options for a fight ASAP. Tim is disappointed but focused still on what comes next. He’s a fighter, he wants to fight, so waiting for Charlo recovery is not an option. Until then, training continues in USA.”
Tim Tszyu (21-0) is coming off a decision win over Terrell Gausha and in his career, he has notable wins over Jeff Horn, Bowyn Morgan, Dwight Ritchie, Denton Vassell, and Dennis Hogan among others. Yet, this fight against Charlo was his first big-name opponent and the hope for Tszyu and his team is he will fight in January and then face Charlo once he is healed.
“Tim will be ready for Charlo once he’s cleared for undisputed and Tim will be even more determined to bring all (four) belts home,” vowed Jennings. “These things are part of boxing. We just dust ourselves off, regroup and get back to what we do best.”
