Tommy Fury Out, Jake Paul To Rematch Tyron Woodley On December 18
Tommy Fury will not be boxing Jake Paul on December 18 after all.
Online personality Keemstar, revealed on social media he was told Fury was out of the fight. Multiple reports were then able to confirm the news that Fury has been forced to pull out of the fight. The news is no doubt disappointing as this was a bout many fans were looking forward to.
The reason for Tommy Fury’s withdrawal is not known at this time. Whether or not Showtime rebooks Paul-Fury for a later date or Paul faces someone else on short notice is also not known.
In the lead-up to the fight, Jake Paul was also skeptical Fury would even step into the ring against him on December 18. He said he had a feeling the Brit would pull out which he eventually did.
“Make sure you show up. Just make sure you show up,” Paul said at the press conference.
Although the official reason as to Fury’s withdrawal was not known, as mentioned, recently his promoter Frank Warren revealed Fury was dealing with a cold. So, perhaps that ended up being more serious than expected.
“Tommy had a little bit of a cold but hopefully he is going to be okay,” Warren said. “We are up in Morecambe [on Wednesday] so hopefully we will know more then, but he is up for it and he wants to fight. He can’t wait for the fight and I know certainly from Jake’s perspective he can’t wait for the fight.”
Tommy Fury (7-0) is coming off a decision win over Anthony Taylor, a main training partner of Jake Paul, on the Paul-Woodley undercard. The fight was also his USA debut which he said was a dream come true.
UPDATE: Jake Paul has now taken to social media to confirm that Fury is out of their fight due to a “medical condition”. Tyron Woodley will step in on late-notice to face the internet celebrity in what will be a rematch on December 18.
