Top Rank Open To Co-Promoting Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou With UFC
Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou is not as farfetched as it may seem.
Fury recently made headlines when he called out the UFC heavyweight champion for a potential boxing match using four-ounce UFC gloves.
Ngannou — who has long expressed his desire to compete in boxing before his career is over — replied soon after with a counter proposal.
“How about MMA rules with boxing gloves? I can do you that favor.”
Regardless of the ruleset, a fight between the pair seemed unlikely. Until now.
Top Rank Open To Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou Fight
Top Rank president Todd DuBoef recently revealed that the boxing promotion was open to promoting a matchup between the pair of heavyweight champions alongside the UFC.
Negotiations could also be easier than any other boxer vs. MMA fighter matchup given that both Top Rank — who co-promotes Fury — and UFC have their media rights tied with ESPN (via Adam Stern).
“Top Rank is open to doing a co-promotion with UFC for a @Tyson_Fury-@Francis_Ngannou boxing/MMA crossover fight, per @ToddDuBoef, who told SBJ that negotiations could be made easier by both properties having their media rights tied to @ESPN. ‘I think it’d do really well.'”
For now, both men have business to attend to.
Fury is expected to face Dillian Whyte in March while Ngannou is set to defend his title against Ciryl Gane in the UFC 270 headliner taking place next month.
Should both fighters come out on top, perhaps we could actually see this matchup afterward.
