Trainer Doesn’t Want Derek Chisora To Fight Deontay Wilder: ‘Just Too Hard A Night For Him’
Derek Chisora should not be fighting Deontay Wilder next.
That’s according to Chisora’s own trainer Dave Coldwell who believes it’s too hard a night for the veteran heavyweight.
Chisora is coming off a unanimous decision defeat to Joseph Parker in their rematch last month. Chisora was hurt and dropped a couple of times before he showed tremendous heart to come back and have moments of his own.
In the end, it wasn’t enough as he suffered his third defeat in a row.
However, his promoter Eddie Hearn believes all his losses have come to high level opponents and that if he were to face Wilder next, Chisora could come out on top provided he survived the first four rounds.
Coldwell: If It Were Up To Me, Derek Chisora Would Not Fight Wilder
With that said, it’s not a fight Coldwell wants for his pupil. Even if he may be overruled by Chisora who may end up wanting to fight Wilder in particular.
“No, no, no. It’s not something I wanna see,” Coldwell told talkSPORT. “I think it’s just too hard a night for him. Derek’s Derek and he’ll do what he wants to do. It doesn’t matter what anybody says, it’s the same as how he’s been all the way through his career.
“When it comes down to, ‘Does he fight again or doesn’t he fight again?’ Yes, he will listen to people’s advice when it comes to opponents and things like that, but Derek wants to fight certain people. If he wants the fights, then they’ll happen. If I had my way, he wouldn’t be fighting Deontay Wilder, that’s for sure.”
