Trainer: Trilogy Delay Will Benefit Deontay Wilder More Than Tyson Fury
The trilogy delay will only benefit Deontay Wilder according to head trainer Malik Scott.
Wilder was set to face Tyson Fury in a trilogy match for the WBC heavyweight title this past weekend. That was until it was postponed due to a COVID outbreak in Fury’s camp.
With the trilogy now set for October, it means both fighters have another few months to prepare before they finally lock horns again.
And as far as Scott is concerned, that gives his pupil even more time to truly punish Fury.
“It’s a great thing because it just gives us more time to marinate Fury for the cooking,” Scott said (via The Mirror). “I said Fury wasn’t making it out of five rounds before the postponement. But now, since we have more time to prepare, it’s really about to get ugly.
“If anything I just felt bad for Deontay because it’s the third postponement that has happened to him for the trilogy. But either way, more time we get to marinate Fury is going to make the taste of victory even more sweeter.”
Fury, on the other hand, will naturally have different plans for the fight as he has gone on record predicting an even faster knockout.
He is also taking special precautions so that another COVID outbreak doesn’t occur again.
“There were only ten of us on the team this time,” Fury said recently. “But when we go back into camp for a month in England and another month here I will cut us to just four full time. Me, my head trainer SugarHill Steward, his assistant Andy Lee and my old pal Tim who organises my life.
“We will strictly control the access for sparring partners and increase testing. No masseur. No fitness coach. No dietician. Even my two brothers will have to wait to join me until fight week here in Vegas.
“I’ve suffered enough frustration on this roller-coaster. I don’t need more, any more than I would have risked anyone else’s health by coming early out of quarantine.”
