Tyson Fury remains betting favorite to beat Oleksandr Usyk despite wait in potential title clash
Despite the fact we appear no further along the path in a potential heavyweight title unification clash, current WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury remains a firm betting favorite to defeat Ukraine native and fellow titleholder, Oleksandr Usyk in an eventual title bout.
Fury, the current WBC heavyweight champion, most recently improved to 33-0-1 as a professional back in December at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, landing an eventual tenth round TKO victory against Derek Chisora in a successful title defense.
As for Usyk, the fan-favorite champion secured his second career win over former heavyweight champion and British puncher, Anthony Joshua last time out – rematching the Watford native in Saudi Arabia in last August – moving to 20-0 with a one-sided split decision triumph.
Linked to an eventual title unification fight with Fury, Usyk, still remains, however, quite a clear betting underdog at +200 to defeat Morecambe native, Fury – with the latter remaining a healthy -250 betting favorite to emerge as undisputed gold holder.
Non GamStop betting sites are taking action on boxing matches in the form of both outright and prop bets, with wagering on fights including a potential title battle between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk available.
First winning WBC heavyweight gold back in 2020, Fury minted himself as the champion with a seventh round TKO win over former gold holder, Deontay Wilder, before defending the belt in a subsequent rematch – landing a penultimate round finish, before then stopping Dillian Whyte with a sixth round knockout in a British homecoming.
A former WBA IBO, IBF, and WBO heavyweight champion to boot, Fury improved to 25-0 back in November 2015 in Dusseldorf, Germany – defeating Wladimir Klitschko with a unanimous decision victory over the veteran heavyweight icon.
Amongst his other standout career victories, Fury has beaten the likes of Otto Wallin, the above-mentioned quarter of Klitschko, Wilder, Chisora, and Whyte – as well as Steve Cunningham, and Tom Schwarz.
Making a move to professional boxing back in 2013, Usyk, a former cruiserweight champion – who struck gold at the weight class back in 2018 with a unification win over Murat Gassiev, would then defeat Liverpool veteran, Tony Bellew.
Defeating common-foe, Chisora in a decision win to clinch WBO spoils, in his pair of outings with Olympian, Joshua – Usyk would secure gold under the scrutiny of WBA, IBF, WBO, and the IBO – landing a pair of standout decision success against the British boxer.
Over the course of his 20-fight professional career, Usyk – who boasts an undefeated record, has fired home a stunning 13 separate knockout triumphs.
And expected to make his return to the ring later this year, potentially in an August fight with Daniel Dubios, Usyk faces the hurdle of handing the WBA heavyweight champion just his second career loss, having most recently defeated Kevin Lerena with a third round TKO in December of last year to boot.
Nevertheless, a victory over Greenwich native, Dubios, certainly leaves the door open to a potential fight between Usyk and Fury – which has so far been illusive for both sides to agree on.
