Tyson Fury Confident He Can Overcome Champion Oleksandr Usyk
Tyson Fury has never been short of confidence and tends to shoot from the hip when discussing possible opponents, and the comments made by the British fighter were very much par for the course.
34-year-old Mancunian Fury commented after Oleksandr Usyk’s split decision win over Anthony Joshua, stating confidently that;
“It was one of the worst heavyweight title fights l have ever seen,” Before adding;
“I would annihilate both of them on the same night. Get your checkbook out because the Gypsy King is here to stay forever.”
An encounter between WBO, WBA, and IBF title holder Usyk and Fury, who holds the WBC title, is growing more and more likely and it’s a fight that punters want to see and you can imagine the level of betting interest will be very high indeed. The two popular fighters will drive a massive amount of revenue and if you want to see what sportsbooks are worthy of your business, then check here for an in-depth guides to the providers available.
The feeling may well be mutual, with Usyk making it very clear that all roads lead to a Fury bout;
“I’m sure that Tyson Fury is not retired yet,”
“I’m sure I’m convinced he wants to fight me. I want to fight him, and if I’m not fighting Tyson Fury, I’m not fighting at all.”
Fury is undefeated in his 33 professional fights, collecting 32 wins and a draw with Deontay Wilder before beating the American on two other occasions in 2020 and 2021. His last fight came in April when he took care of Dillian Whyte with a technical knockout last in the sixth round.
35-year-old Usyk has a 20-0 record after his second win over Joshua, the fight in August taking place in Saudi Arabia and producing a deserved win, which then led to his British opponent behaving erratically after the battle, giving an impromptu speech in the ring.
Fury’s promoter Frank Warren is confident that a fight will be set up between the two champions, and it would give the fighter the chance to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion from Great Britain since Lennox Lewis achieved that feat in 1999 after he beat Evander Holyfield.
On the possible fight, Warren commented;
“He and Usyk would be a really good fight,”
“It’s a fight that I think will be made because both teams would like to see that happen.”
Warren added, “Usyk said after the fight that it’s the only fight he’s interested in, and it’s certainly the same case with Tyson.”
“It’s just a matter of where it will generate the most income because it’s a unique fight, a historic fight.”
Warren then went on to declare the possibility of an all-British clash between Joshua and Fury, but talk of such a fight is more than just a little disrespectful towards Usyk, who may well be the favorite to win just about any contest he is lined up to take part in.
