Tyson Fury: Deontay Wilder Could Be Next
WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has warned fans to not be surprised if he completes his trilogy with Deontay Wilder before fighting Anthony Joshua for all the belts.
Fury’s co-promoter Bob Arum recently suggested a deal for ‘The Gypsy King’ to fight his compatriot was basically done and the two would likely square off in the summer.
Eddie Hearn, who promotes Joshua has made similar suggestions and it now seems to be just a matter of everyone signing on the dotted line.
Unfortunately, Fury does not believe that to be the case.
In an interview with IFL TV, the fan favourite insisted he is not dead set on fighting Joshua next.
“I’m not going to hold my breath for it, that’s for sure,” Fury said, “I’m not putting all my eggs all in one basket because I’ve been guilty of doing that before and then these fights don’t happen, and then I end up in a massive depression, and feel like killing myself, so I’m not gunning to say this fight’s definitely happening in May, June, August, whenever.”
Fury just wants to get back to fighting and has his heart set on competing twice in 2021.
He even suggested a third fight with Wilder could well be on the cards before he faces ‘AJ’.
“I got two fights this year and I don’t give a fuck who it is with,” Fury exclaimed. “Possible opponents? People may be surprised. Don’t write Wilder off out of the occasion yet. He can be fighting me next, who knows? I could have a fair trilogy with Wilder yet…there’s a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes, and you know, and Wilder might be next. Who knows?” (Transcribed by Boxing Insider)
