Tyson Fury Open To Competing Again After Deontay Wilder Fight
Tyson Fury wants to compete again in 2021 after his trilogy with Deontay Wilder.
Fury defends his WBC heavyweight title against Wilder on July 24 in Las Vegas with the winner of the fight expected to fight Anthony Joshua in a title unification clash next.
Whether that ends up being the case remains to be seen given how difficult negotiations have been between the camps of Joshua and both Fury and Wilder in the past.
However, Fury wants to stay active and is even willing to do a title defense if he doesn’t end up facing Joshua later this year.
“One thing I will say is though – if I now get through this fight injury free and get the victory, I’ll be looking to fight again this year, for sure,” Fury told Gareth Davies (via Boxing Scene). “If I get through Wilder then we’ll see who’s available after that and who’s out there.
“I might take a voluntary defense. Look at the people I’ve had to fight in my last couple of fights. I was Wilder’s mandatory. So we’ll see if I can get a keep-busy fight in between.”
What does Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn think about those plans?
“If Tyson Fury wants another fight in between, let’s do the right thing and give the fight to the mandatory challenger, which is Dillian Whyte,” Hearn said (via Michael Benson).
