Tyson Fury Promoter: Anthony Joshua Priced Himself Out Of Step-Aside Offer
The reason Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk didn’t happen was because Anthony Joshua priced himself out of his step-aside offer. At least according to Frank Warren.
Fury is now set to defend his WBC heavyweight title against Dillian Whyte after Warren secured the rights to the fight with a $41 million bid on Friday.
However, prior to that, there was still hope that Fury would end up facing Oleksandr Usyk in a heavyweight title unification fight.
That’s because there were reports of Joshua being handed a lucrative offer to step aside so that Fury and Usyk could fight.
As far as Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn was concerned, it didn’t end up happening as Fury preferred not to face Usyk next.
However, Fury’s co-promoter Warren says otherwise.
It was the fact that Joshua priced himself out of the step-aside offer that led to Fury eventually facing Whyte (via Michael Benson).
“In the end some of the financial demands made to step-aside were impossible to accommodate… Joshua priced himself out. That was the straw that broke the camel’s back as far as Tyson was concerned.”
In the end, it all depends on who you choose to believe.
