Tyson Fury announces retirement from boxing
Heavyweight boxing legend Tyson Fury has officially announced his retirement from professional boxing.
Over the course of the last few decades, Tyson Fury has served as one of the most interesting heavyweight boxers around. In fact, you could extend that to the entire sport, regardless of weight class. He’s been through his fair share of trials and tribulations but in the midst of all that, he has established himself as easily one of the most entertaining fighters of this or any other generation – especially in his division.
Recently, he’s suffered consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk in two absolutely blockbuster encounters. Many felt as if this set him up perfectly for a long-awaited superfight against Anthony Joshua, but as per the man himself, he’s instead opting to ride off into the sunset and retire.
Tyson Fury posted the following message on social media, confirming his retirement.
Tyson Fury announces retirement
“Hi everybody, I’m gonna make this short and sweet, I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast, I’ve loved every single minute of it, and I’m gonna end with this – Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless, everybody, see you on the other side.”
As you can imagine, there’s already been a great deal of speculation over whether or not Tyson Fury is being genuine here. There’s always a possibility that he’s doing this as a tactic to try and push up the value of a potential showdown with Anthony Joshua, which would almost certainly sell out Wembley Stadium – and lead to a whole lot of pay-per-view buys.
In equal measure, Tyson Fury is an enigma. You never quite know what you’re going to get. So, if we have indeed seen him compete professionally for the final time, we just want to say thank you for the memories, Tyson.
