Tyson Fury Says He’s Moved On From Anthony Joshua After Deadline Passes, Likely To Face Mahmoud Charr
Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua will now likely not happen in December as expected.
Fury and Joshua were targeted to box on December 5 in Wales, and the heavyweight champ set a deadline for Joshua to sign the contract. Joshua was vocal on social media that he would sign the deal but on Monday, Fury announced in a social media video that the deadline passed with no deal in place and he will move on.
“Well, guys, it’s official – D-Day has come and gone,” Fury said in a video posted to his Instagram account. “It’s gone past 5 o’clock Monday [in the UK]. No contract has been signed [by Joshua]. It’s officially over for Joshua. He is now out in the cold, with the wolfpack. Forget about it. Idiot! Coward! Always knew he didn’t have the minerals to fight ‘The Gypsy King.’ Good luck with your career and your life. End of [story]. Peace out.”
With the Joshua fight likely not happening now, according to multiple reports, Tyson Fury will now turn his attention to Mahmoud Charr.
Tyson Fury (32-0-1) is coming off a TKO win over Dillian Whyte and after the fight, he announced his retirement from the sport. However, the retirement was short-lived as he will now be coming back. Prior to the win over Whyte, he had back-to-back knockout wins over Deontay Wilder to end their trilogy with a bang.
The current WBC heavyweight champ in Fury also holds notable wins over Otto Wallin, Wladimir Klitschko, Derek Chisora, and Steve Cunningham among others.
Mahmoud Charr (33-4) is riding a five-fight winning streak but the 37-year-old German is not as known as the other fighters Fury was talking about facing. He was formally known as Manuel Charr and held the WBA heavyweight title from 2017 to 2021 and holds notable wins over Kevin Johnson, Alexander Ustinov, Danny Williams, and Owen Beck among others.
