Tyson Fury Says It Would Be A ‘Travesty’ If He Never Fought Anthony Joshua
Tyson Fury knows he and Anthony Joshua need to fight before their careers are up.
For the longest time, Fury and Joshua were undefeated and the biggest names in the heavyweight division. But, for different reasons, the fight never came to fruition, and since then Joshua has struggled while Fury has lost his first fight.
Although the fight is no longer between two undefeated fighters, Tyson Fury believes the bout needs to happen and it would be a travesty if it didn’t happen.
“At the end of the day, it would be a travesty if we didn’t fight,” Fury said (via BoxingScene). “No matter if he loses 20 more fights, if he doesn’t win another fight and he has 10 years away from the game, it doesn’t matter. We have to fight. Doesn’t matter if we’re 50 years old, we have to fight. I lost one big fight [from happening] already with David Price, he was a British hope at one stage and that was building up lovely, that would have been a massive fight in Liverpool or Manchester, and it would be a travesty if we didn’t fight each other.”
Before that fight can happen, Tyson Fury will rematch Oleksandr Usyk later this year. Fury says he is ready to go right now and has confidence he will KO Usyk to hand him his first loss.
“I’m ready to rock and roll. I don’t need a 12-week camp. I’ve been boxing all my life. I’m ready to go tonight, tomorrow, next weekend. All I need is five-six weeks good sparring this time.”
Fury is 34-1-1 as a pro and coming off the split decision loss to Oleksandr Usyk. In his career, Fury has notable wins over Francis Ngannou, Deontay Wilder, twice, Otto Wallin, Tom Schwarz, Dillian Whyte, Derek Chisora, and Wladimir Klitschko among others.
