Tyson Fury Still Believes Anthony Joshua Fight Will Happen, Responds To Joshua Prediction
Tyson Fury still believes he’ll fight Anthony Joshua.
The pair were originally set to face each other in a highly-anticipated title unification clash this year. That was until an arbitrator ruled that Fury had to face Deontay Wilder in a trilogy match.
And so, that fight is now happening October 9 while Joshua will defend his heavyweight titles against Oleksandr Usyk on September 25.
Both fighters need to win if they still want the title unification clash, but even if that’s the case, not many are confident it will happen.
Fury believes otherwise and is even ready to face Joshua without any belts on the line.
“I have never been optimistic about this fight happening, even when the fight was agreed initially and we were set to go at it in Saudi Arabia,” Fury told The Overlap (via Boxing Scene).
“But I still wasn’t optimistic about it, and guess what it never happened, but I do feel this fight will happen eventually. I do think sooner or later it will happen, even if we have to go completely AWOL and bin all the belts to make the fight happen between us for whatever reason. I’m willing to do that, I’m not sure about him.”
Joshua notably said the same back in July and even said he’d smoke Fury in a fight. To that, Fury responded:
“AJ couldn’t smoke a cigarette, never mind smoke the ‘Gypsy King’… I will absolutely annihilate that bodybuilder. That’s why Eddie Hearn’s been steering around me for the past ten years.”
Do you agree with Fury?
