Tyson Fury Urges Deontay Wilder To Land More Punches In Trilogy Fight
Tyson Fury believes Deontay Wilder would benefit from landing more punches on him in their trilogy fight than he did in the rematch.
On Oct. 9, Fury and Wilder are set to mix it up a third time. The action will take place inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The first encounter between Fury and Wilder back in Dec. 2018 ended in a split draw. In the Feb. 2020 rematch, Fury scored a seventh-round TKO finish to lay claim to the WBC Heavyweight Title.
After winning an arbitration case, Wilder will get his trilogy fight. Speaking to media members during a Zoom conference call, Fury had the following advice for Wilder (h/t BoxingScene.com).
“I think he can try to land more punches on my face. That will help his chances of winning. It’s usually a good idea if you try it. Hit the opponent in the face as much as possible.”
Fury went on to say that there is no exact science to getting Wilder out of there a second time. It all hinges on who has the better night.
“There’s no secret, there’s no rocket science to boxing. A lot of these fighters try to make it technical and downloading data bullsh!t—I never heard such bollock in my life. It’s two men fighting, punching each other in the face and body for twelve rounds or less.
“It’s no rocket science to it. You got to train right, get to bed early. Drink plenty of water and get stuck in best way you can.”
Tyson Fury may say that success in boxing isn’t rocket science, but at times he’s made it all seem effortless. Many consider him to be the most technical boxer in the division, which is quite a feat given his size.
