Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua Verbally Agreed To For May Or June
Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will be fighting in the early parts of 2021.
Ever since Fury TKO’d Deontay Wilder in February, the talks of him fighting Anthony Joshua increased. Then, after the Brit beat Kubrat Pulev the talks only intensified with many wanting to see the fight in 2021. Now, according to Mike Coppinger of The Athletic, Fury vs. Joshua has been verbally agreed to for May or June of 2021.
“Eddie Hearn says Tyson Fury-Anthony Joshua is verbally agreed to and contracts are being drafted for the heavyweight championship fight in May/June. Hearn says only “minor issues to resolve” such as who walks last, the site, etc. This fight is going to happen next,” Coppinger tweeted.
If this fight does end up happening it will easily be one of, if not the biggest combat sports fight of 2021. It will lead to one heavyweight champion and easily be the biggest boxing fight in UK history. This is a fight the fans have called for, and it is good to see the fighters and promoters get it done.
Tyson Fury has not fought since the win over Wilder. He was expected to return on December 5 but it did not come to fruition and ended up only fighting once in 2020. In his career, he holds wins over Derek Chisora, twice, and Wladimir Klitschko.
Anthony Joshua, meanwhile, is coming off the win over Kubrat Pulev where he defended his WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight title. It was his first fight since he beat Andy Ruiz Jr. last December in their rematch after Ruiz Jr. pulled off a massive upset and knocked out Joshua.
Currently, no location has been revealed or how the split will work for the fight. But, the fight has been verbally agreed to and will happen in 2021.
