Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder III Likely To Take Place In October Following Postponement
Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder III will likely take place in October now.
Fury and Wilder were expected to run it back for the third time on July 24 in Las Vegas. However, on Thursday, it was revealed that Fury and multiple members of his team tested positive for COVID-19 and the fight was postponed.
The news came as a surprise as Bob Arum said at the press conference that Fury and Wilder were both fully vaccinated, as well as their teams.
“Now, you take the two fighters here. Fury is totally vaccinated,” said Bob Arum during the June 15th press conference per Dan Rafael. “And I talked with [Deontay’s co-manager] Shelly Finkel a little while ago, and he said that Wilder’d been fully vaccinated. And their corners have been vaccinated. That’s taking responsibility.”
Although Fury ended up getting the virus, the most important thing is he heals up to 100 percent. There’s no question fans want to see this fight with Fury at his best but according to boxing journalist, Dan Rafael the trilogy match is now targeted for October.
The exact date or location of the trilogy fight between Fury and Wilder is unknown at this time.
Tyson Fury hasn’t fought since February of 2020 where he scored a seventh-round TKO win over Deontay Wilder to win the WBC and The Ring heavyweight titles. Prior to the victory over Wilder in the rematch, he earned a decision win over Otto Wallin and a TKO win over Tom Schwarz after his legendary draw against Wilder in December of 2018.
Deontay Wilder also hasn’t fought since he lost to Fury by TKO. Before the loss to Fury, he earned vicious KO wins over Luis Ortiz and Dominic Breazeale after the draw against Fury. Wilder is looking to reclaim his WBC heavyweight title in the trilogy match.
