Tyson Fury vs. Derek Chisora 3 Likely To Happen In December, Says Frank Warren
Tyson Fury finally has his opponent set for his December fight.
In the lead-up to his fight against Dillian Whyte, Fury said he would be retiring and confirmed the news after he got the KO. He wanted to face Oleksandr Usyk but that never came to fruition, and then he turned his attention to Anthony Joshua but that also failed to happen.
Now, according to Fury’s promoter in Frank Warren, he revealed Fury is likely to return on December 3 against Derek Chisora.
“We’ve been struggling to get an opponent but we’ve got the highest-ranked opponent which is Derek Chisora,” Warren told IFL TV. “That’s where we’ll be going and that’ll be on December 3. We were just trying to find someone and it’s been very difficult. What it’s all about is that Tyson will have had one fight in a year and we always expected the fight in December would have been Usyk, but Usyk wasn’t available. Now, I hope, that looks like some time in February. Tyson wants to fight before then and get out, we want to get him out and that’s where we’re at. I’m not going to disregard Chisora but if he comes through that then we’ve got the big one [vs Usyk]. That’s really what it’s all been about this year.”
The fight will also serve as their trilogy as they first met in 2011, and it was Fury winning a clear-cut decision win to hand Chisora his first career defeat. They then had their rematch three years later in 2014 and Fury once again won, but this time he dominated and stopped Chisora.
Tyson Fury (32-0-1) is coming off the win over Whyte last time out, and before that, he had back-to-back stoppage wins over Deontay Wilder to complete the trilogy. In his career, Fury also holds notable wins over Otto Wallin, Wladimir Klitschko, Tom Schwarz, Christian Hammer, and Steve Cunningham.
Derek Chisora (33-12) returned to the win column last time out as he beat Kubrat Pulev by split decision after losing three straight fights – which saw him drop two in a row to Joseph Parker by decision and a decision loss to Usyk.
