Tyson Fury vs. Dillian Whyte Targeted For Cardiff, No Rematch Clause Expected
Tyson Fury vs. Dillian Whyte will likely take place in Cardiff — and there won’t be a rematch clause either.
Fury is set to defend his WBC heavyweight title against Whyte next as Oleksandr Usyk is slated to defend his heavyweight titles against Anthony Joshua in a rematch sometime next year.
It’s a fight many expected — Fury included — with Whyte getting his first chance at becoming a world champion with one of the four major belts.
As for when and where it could take place? Promoter Frank Warren revealed the target was mid-March onwards with the Principality Stadium in Cardiff being the most likely venue.
Interestingly, it doesn’t look like there will be any rematch clause either (via Michael Benson).
“Frank Warren has stated that they don’t intend to negotiate a rematch clause for Tyson Fury vs Dillian Whyte. He added that they are targeting the fight for “mid-March onwards” with the Principality Stadium in Cardiff the most likely venue.”
While Fury will be the favorite and should very much fancy his chances, it’s a big risk not to have a rematch clause.
We saw that just recently after Teofimo Lopez lost his lightweight titles to George Kambosos Jr. last month.
If things go Whyte’s way, it could be him getting the chance to unify the heavyweight division against the winner of Usyk vs. Joshua.
Not that Fury plans on having that happen.
Do you think Tyson Fury should have a rematch clause for his fight with Dillian Whyte?
