UFC and WWE team up under TKO umbrella to form new boxing league

As part of the TKO Group, UFC and WWE heads are reportedly teaming up to form a brand new boxing league in association with Turki Alalshikh.
For the longest time now, we’ve heard rumblings of UFC – and more specifically Dana White – wanting to break into th world of professional boxing. As a sport, it’s been through many changes over the years, and it was originally the combat sport that Dana wanted to focus his attention on.
Now, for White and the UFC, it seems as if that dream has become a reality. There have been extensive communications with Alalshikh about something of this nature for a long time now, and given that WWE also has a great business relationship with Saudi Arabia, it makes sense.
UFC set for big next step
The Ultimate Fighting Championship has become something of a monopoly in the world of mixed martial arts. They are at the head of the table by a country mile, and their competitors have been trailing behind in the distance for quite a while.
Boxing, meanwhile, has a different structure to the UFC model and that’s always been the case. As we look ahead to the future, it certainly feels like there’s a lot of room for them to grow and develop in a way that we haven’t really seen in boxing before.
Alas, some are concerned about how UFC are going to make an impact. In addition to many big fighters already being signed to other promoters, the Ali Act is something that many will worry could be in jeopardy.
Regardless of which side of the fence you fall on, there’s no denying the magnitude of this announcement – and now, it’s a case of waiting to see what some of the specifics look like in the weeks and months ahead.
