Vasiliy Lomachenko Plummets In Ring Magazine’s Top-10 Pound-For-Pound List After Loss To Teofimo Lopez
Vasyl Lomachenko has plummeted in pound-for-pound rankings after his loss to Teofimo Lopez.
On Saturday night, Lomachenko and Lopez were unifying the lightweight titles and many expected the pound-for-pound best in Lomachenko to get his hand raised. Yet, that was not the case as it was Lopez who had a ton of success early on and in the last two rounds to win the fight by decision.
Now, following the loss, Ring Magazine has updated their pound-for-pound list and Lomachenko has plummeted.
P4P Top-10:
- Canelo Alvarez
- Naoya Inoue
- Terence Crawford
- Oleksander Usyk
- Errol Spence Jr.
- Teofimo Lopez
- Vasyl Lomachenko
- Gennady Golovkin
- Juan Franciso Estrada
- Artur Beterbiev
Immediately, two names that are left off are Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. Fury should no doubt be on the lost as he is proven he is the best heavyweight in boxing. However, if he defeats Joshua in 2021 as they are rumored to fight in 2021, then there is no question he should be ranked.
For Vasyl Lomachenko, the drop in pound-for-pound rankings is not surprising. However, if he does rematch Lopez down the line then perhaps he can get back into the top-five.
After the loss, many were confused by the one 119-109 scorecard, but for Lomachenko he believes he won the bout.
“I want to go home and review the fight, I can’t comment right now much about it. Definitely I’m not agreeing with the scorecards,” Lomachenko said.
However, for Top Rank promoter, Bob Arum, he says he had no problem with Lopez getting the nod as he actually had scored it for him.
“Lopez won, 7-5 is the way I scored it. I can see 8-4, that’s a possibility,” Arum said. “But you can’t score it 11 rounds to 1 and say you watched the fight. Ninth, 10th and 11th weren’t close. I would advise any fighter that I have to ask for the commission not to appoint Julie Lederman.”
