Vasiliy Lomachenko Wants George Kambosos Jr. Next
Vasily Lomachenko is hoping to fight George Kambosos Jr. next.
Lomachenko, who reigned over the lightweight division for years, no longer holds a title, but picked up a dominant decision win over Richard Commey as the judges scored it 119-108 2x and 117-110. After the fight, many were beginning to talk about Lomachenko getting a title fight.
“I said before I don’t like talking about myself. We have in this weight division, we have a lot of great fighters. We have a lot of top fighters. So we can organize a lot of great fights in the future,” Lomachenko said (via BoxingScene)
During his fight against Commey as Lomachenko was beginning to beat him up, he waved to Commey’s corner to stop the fight. However, they didn’t and their fighter ended up going the distance.
“I saw his situation. It was very hard for him,” Lomachenko said. “That’s why I said, ‘Hey, stop the fight.’ He is a true warrior. He has a big heart and we continue and we show {the} people 12 great rounds.”
For Commey, he says he is fine but the one time he got dropped was the time he took his eyes off Vasiliy Lomachenko for a split second.
“I took my eye off him for a second and them boom! I just took my eyes off him and then that’s it. It is what it is. He’s a great fighter. I did what I had to do. I’m good. I’m not hurt. Nothing happened to me.”
With Lomachenko earning a one-sided decision win, he’s open to the Kambosos Jr. fight next, as of course, Kambosos Jr. picked up a massive upset win over Teofimo Lopez a few weeks ago.
“Yes, of course [I want the Kambosos fight], I need this chance. If God gives me this chance I take it.,” Lomachenko said. “I will go anywhere I need to go to fight him.”
