Victor Ortiz Has Sexual Assault Charges Dismissed
Victor Ortiz handed himself into police in September 2018, after being charged with multiple counts of sexual assault.
The charges included forcible rape, forcible oral copulation and forcible digital penetration.
The former WBC welterweight champion was arrested a few days before his 2018 main event bout.
This resulted in a forced withdrawal from his fight with John Molina.
According to the victim, she was staying with Ortiz at his home in Tarzana, in March of that year.
Ortiz plead not guilty to the accusations and paid a $100,000 USD bond, for his release.
Ortiz’s attorney, Mark Pachowicz said “From the time that we got involved our focus has been to obtain evidence that we believed would exonerate our client.”
According to records, charges were dropped because they could not prove them beyond a reasonable doubt.
Ortiz has challenged some big names throughout his boxing career, so far.
This includes the likes of former world champions, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Marcos Maidana.
His career has certainly been in a decline, with being inactive since February, 2018.
Over the past two-years, Ortiz was fighting the case in court, with serious prison time ahead if convicted.
“Although I was confident this would be the result, this has been a terrible and unimaginable ordeal,” Ortiz said.
It looks like he will aim to continue from where he left off with his career ventures.
“With this case no longer my focus, I look forward to picking up and advancing my boxing and entertainment career.”
Since featuring in both Southpaw and Expendables 3, he might look to continue his acting career.
