Vitor Belfort: Fight With Oscar De La Hoya Keeps Me Relevant
Vitor Belfort believes that a showdown with Oscar De La Hoya has kept him relevant.
Belfort has more than left his mark in the sport of MMA. He is a former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and has been in a slew of high-profile fights. This time, he’s entering the world of boxing against a former boxing world champion in De La Hoya.
Speaking to reporters, Belfort said his name remains in the headlines thanks to his upcoming bout with De La Hoya (via BoxingScene.com).
“Triller Fight Club has truly opened a new world with their events and I’m thrilled to be part of it. I challenge any MMA champion to fight me at Triller Fight Club. Sometimes it can be hard to stay relevant but this fight with Oscar De La Hoya at Triller Fight Club absolutely keeps me relevant.
“Right now, I have Oscar in my sights and that’s the only fighter I’m thinking about. After I beat him we can talk about my next opponent. Against Oscar, I think the fight plays out with me working through him and looking for the knockout. This is one of the toughest opponents of my career and I can’t look past him to other fights.”
Belfort also said that he feels Triller has put together a crossover card that fight fans are going to appreciate on Sept. 11.
“Boxing is an art and this is a great crossover event for fans. It takes courage for this challenge to fight De La Hoya. This is a legacy fight for me. I’m hoping after I win on September 11 to box again in December. I haven’t turned my back on MMA but this is my focus now.”
