WBC Order Canelo Alvarez-Avni Yildirim For WBC Super Middleweight Championship

Fans may be one step closer to seeing Canelo Alvarez return to the ring after the WBC ordered Alvarez to take on Avni Yildirim for the vacant WBC Super Middleweight Championship.

Up until this weekend, David Benavidez held the title. However, the 23-year-old lost his belt after failing to make weight ahead of his clash with Roamer Alexis Angulo. Benavidez went on to defeat Angulo, who, if he had won, would have claimed the title. Benavidez’s victory means the belt remains up for grabs.

Yildirim is the current mandatory challenger. The Turkish fighter will undoubtedly relish the opportunity to take on boxing’s biggest name. Alvarez’s most recent outing took place last November, against Sergey Kovalev. Since then, the Mexican superstar has been linked with various return dates and opponents, but so far, nothing concentrate has materialized.

The WBC has said more details will be made available in the coming days. Hopefully, this means we are not far away from seeing Alvarez lace up his gloves.
