WBC To Order Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia Title Fight In Coming Days
The WBC will be ordering a lightweight title fight between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia in the coming days.
That’s according to WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman (via Michael Benson) who confirmed the organization will give Garcia a couple of days to celebrate his recent win before commencing negotiations.
“WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman has confirmed they are going to order Devin Haney vs Ryan Garcia in the coming days. He said they will give Garcia a little bit of time to celebrate his win in peace and will then send out the letters to start negotiations.”
“Just got off the horn with Mauricio Sulaiman, contrary to what some are saying, the WBC will call for a bout between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia (who just won the interim title this weekend)”
Garcia, of course, became the WBC interim lightweight champion following his impressive come-from-behind seventh-round knockout win over Luke Campbell this past weekend.
As a result, he’s the mandatory for current WBC lightweight champion Haney who is eager to collide with him.
However, Garcia appears more interested in booking a meeting with rival Gervonta Davis, having recently claimed it was his mission to fight and knock him out within two rounds.
That will seemingly have to wait for now as Garcia must first unify the WBC lightweight title against fellow undefeated champion Haney. Haney is coming off a unanimous decision win over Yurorkis Gamboa in November.
