Wladimir Klitschko Praises ‘Special’ Oleksandr Usyk, Believes Anthony Joshua Can Bounce Back
Wladimir Klitschko was one person who had an eye on the heavyweight title fight this past weekend.
That’s because his compatriot in Oleksandr Usyk was challenging Anthony Joshua for the heavyweight titles.
And of course, Klitschko last competed in 2017 when he suffered a late knockout defeat to Joshua in what was seen as a passing of the torch moment.
So what did he have to say when Usyk not only upset the odds, but outclassed Joshua over 12 rounds to become the new heavyweight champion?
“Usyk made history,” Klitschko told Sky Sports. “… Being undefeated for such a long time, winning all the titles at cruiserweight and now heavyweight, he made history. I mean, this man is something special.”
However, Klitschko doesn’t believe it’s the end of Joshua’s run as champion as he believes his old rival can bounce back just like he did.
“We’ve seen AJ was challenged,” Klitschko added. “I remember my time, I lost two fights within a year back in 2004. To bounce back and become one of the longest reigning champions.
“AJ still has his time, absolutely. It’s all about how to overcome this challenge.”
Do you agree with Klitschko?
