Wladimir Klitschko Sends Warning To Russia After Invasion Of Ukraine
Wladimir Klitschko, the former heavyweight champion, sent a warning to Russia after the country invaded Ukraine.
Early Thursday morning in Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine, and shortly after that, explosions were heard going off. Ukraine then confirmed the invasion has begun.
With that, Klitschko took to social media to issue a warning to Russia.
“The world is watching how reckless and deadly imperialism is, not just for Ukraine but the whole world. Let history be a lesson to not be repeated,” Klitschko wrote.
Not only is Wladimir Klitschko being vocal about the Russian invasion but he recently enlisted in Ukraine’s reserve army to help defend his country.
“One district from here, my little girl is going to school. The school is currently closed because the ambassadors have sent the families home,” Wladimir Klitschko said, according to Reuters. “It is the love, the love for my city, my home, my family, my neighbors, my daughter that has brought me here today, that I took this initiative and am now taking part in this territorial defense.”
His brother, Vitali, also a former boxer, said he had hoped the two countries to talk things out but said he would, held defend his country.
“If not, we have to prepare to take weapons in our hands, and defend the country,” Vitali Klitschko said.
Wladimir Klitschko ended his career with a 64-5 record and last fought in 2017 and suffered a TKO loss to Anthony Joshua. He is the former unified heavyweight champion and holds notable wins over Kubrat Pulev, Alexander Povetkin, David Haye, Tony Thompson, and Bryant Jennings among countless others. In his career, he fought in 29 world title fights.
