The appreciation of Anthony Joshua
Anthony Joshua gets a lot of grief from the world of professional boxing – and we’re not really sure it’s warranted.
Following on from his success as an amateur at the Olympics, Anthony Joshua ventured his way into the professional ranks. Ever since making his debut way back in 2013, he’s gone on to put together a record of 28-4. No, he hasn’t managed to pull off the elusive unbeaten career, but in many ways, that tells the story of AJ.
He’s never been someone who takes an easy fight. Instead, he’s the kind of guy who takes on just about any challenge that comes his way. After kickstarting his run in an era that was defined by fighters dodging one another or waiting before taking on the big bouts, Anthony Joshua refused to let that be his legacy. In turn, his reward has been putting together the kind of resume that most fighters can only dream of.
Did he lose to Oleksandr Usyk twice and Andy Ruiz Jr? Yes, but perhaps the most defining defeat of all came recently against Daniel Dubois.
The redemption of Anthony Joshua
The 35-year-old superstar just didn’t look like himself. He was outmatched and outpowered by Dubois, but he went out on his shield – which is how he’s always done it. So, what’s with all the hate? Is it because he was positioned as the golden boy with a clean cut persona? Maybe. Is his fellow Brit Tyson Fury a bit edgier? Of course. Either way, we don’t think these criticisms will hold up in the long run.
He has the heart, grit and ability necessary to climb back to the top of the ladder. Anthony Joshua knows he needs to make adjustments and when he does, we’re fully confident in saying that he’ll be back in the mix sooner rather than later.
