Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury still makes sense, says George Groves

Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua

Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury still makes sense – at least, in the eyes of former British boxer George Groves.

For the longest time, boxing fans around the world were heavily interested in seeing Anthony Joshua take on Tyson Fury. While you could make the argument that many still want to see it happen, the prestige of the bout has certainly taken a knock as a result of the two having a combined four losses against Oleksandr Usyk.

In addition to that, Anthony Joshua was also knocked out cold by Daniel Dubois in his last fight. So, at this stage, many are waiting to see whether or not the trigger is finally pulled, and we get a sell-out stadium event between the pair – likely at Wembley Stadium.

In a recent interview, George Groves spoke about the importance of seeing these two behemoths collide.

George Groves backs Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury

“It’s a logical fight for both guys,” he told Boxing News yesterday.

“I think there’s a lot on the line. Both can now sit back and go okay, Usyk was the best heavyweight of our era but who was better out of Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. That will rumble on forever if these two don’t fight each other.

“Both guys have still got more than enough to make it a great fight. They’re not finished, they’re not spent. The loser does take a kick in the nuts for the legacy but the winner gets it all to gain.”

“That Dubois performance would have been ageing for Joshua,” he commented. “But also suffering back to back defeats for Tyson Fury [against Usyk] would have been ageing. I don’t know how both guys will come back so I wouldn’t want to pick a winner.”
