Gervonta Davis need to rematch Lamont Roach for his legacy

Gervonta Davis survived with a draw against Lamont Roach – but if he really wants to put this chapter of his career behind him, he needs to dive back into the fire.
It’s been a rocky few weeks for Gervonta Davis. In his fight with Lamont Roach, his opponent put forward a far better effort than anyone could’ve expected. That led us down the path of a majority draw, however, there was more to it than that. Davis took a knee in the ninth round but for whatever reason, the referee didn’t count that as a knockdown – which, if counted, would’ve meant that Roach would go on to win the fight based on how the scorecards went.
It was a strange ordeal from start to finish and even now, many believe that it could tarnish the overall legacy of Gervonta Davis. So, how can you shut up the doubters? How can you go out there and prove that it was nothing more than an off night? Do the rematch.
Gervonta Davis has a decision to make
Gervonta Davis is one of the most skilled fighters of his generation and we don’t think that’s an overstatement. For the most part, whenever he gets into the ring, he’s able to put on a show. While the above highlights may indicate that he put forward a good performance, the truth is that it was edited in a favourable manner for Gervonta.
Lamont Roach was, by all accounts, the better man on the night. Hopefully, for Davis’ sake, he will opt to take the rematch – and produce the kind of outing that first put him on the map.
There are bigger fights out there in terms of name value for him, but really, this goes beyond that. This is about having pride in yourself – and we’re excited to see what he chooses to do.
