Joe Joyce needs to use Dillian Whyte’s withdrawal as motivation

Joe Joyce

Unfortunately, Joe Joyce will no longer face off with Dillian Whyte on April 5 after the latter was forced to withdraw from the fight due to a hand injury.

Queensberry Promotions, which stages the April 5 event, said in a statement: “Due to a hand injury sustained during training camp, Dillian Whyte will no longer be able to compete in his scheduled bout on April 5 against Joe Joyce at the Co-Op Live in Manchester.

“A replacement opponent is now being finalised for ‘The Juggernaut’ and an announcement regarding this will be made shortly.”

As we look ahead to what’s next for Joe Joyce, it’s important to consider what the 39-year-old has to do in order to really vault himself back into contention at heavyweight.

It’s time for Joe Joyce to lock in

Given his age, coupled together with some of his recent disappointments inside the ring, we’d say that it’s now or never for Joe Joyce. He has had some incredible moments over the years, but if he wants to go down as more than just ‘another British heavyweight’ from this generation, he’s going to have to put in some serious graft.

Dillian Whyte would’ve served as a really interesting opponent. Alas, that’s no longer going to happen. While there’s been no confirmation regarding who will step in and replace him, Joe Joyce needs to take advantage of the short notice aspect of the contest.

He needs to do everything in his power to roll back the years and really go for it early in the fight. If he’s able to tap into that side of him that brought him to the dance, then who knows how far he could take it.

Regardless, we just want to see this card get saved for Joe’s sake.
