Oleksandr Usyk’s legacy
Tonight, Oleksandr Usyk will attempt to defeat Tyson Fury for the second time – and if he pulls it off, you could make the argument that he would become one of the greatest heavyweights of all time.
The man himself has suggested that he doesn’t look at himself as a legend, but instead, just seems himself as a regular man. Of course, anyone who has been watching Oleksandr Usyk for longer than five seconds knows that he is so, so much more than that.
He has the kind of abilities that pretty much everyone would dream of inside a boxing ring. Plus, the manner in which he has been able to work his way up to the top in the heavyweight division – after many feared he would be too small – has been nothing short of remarkable.
At 22-0, Oleksandr Usyk has already picked up wins over the likes of Fury, Anthony Joshua x2, Daniel Dubois and Derek Chisora (he certainly seems to enjoy fighting the Brits). No, he may not have the longest resume in the world, but can anyone really argue against what he’s been able to achieve in such a short space of time?
The Oleksandr Usyk rise
If he can defeat Tyson Fury in a matter of hours, and perhaps even get the finish, Oleksandr Usyk cannot be denied in the greatest heavyweight of all time conversation. He isn’t the outright number one pick and we aren’t suggesting that, but he’s doing things that we haven’t even seen before.
He made a statement back in May by becoming undisputed champion and alongside what he can do with his hands, he also has a great persona to go with it. At this point, if you aren’t a fan of Oleksandr Usyk, we have to question what he’d need to do to get you on board.
