Betting Odds
Boxing’s biggest star returns to the ring on September 14.
Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is widely considered one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters ever, and he will put his WBC, WBA and WBO super-middleweight belts on the line here.
The Mexican will celebrate his nations Independence Day by taking on 22-0 KO artist Edgar Berlanga at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez
Canelo is a -1600 favourite with Betway and there’s several reasons for that.
The bookies are clearly convinced by Alvarez and it’s hard not to be after watching his performances against boxing’s elite 168lb fighters.
World champions Callum Smith, Billy Joe Saunders, and Caleb Plant surrendered their titles to Canelo as he became Mexico’s first undisputed champion in 2021.
The only thing that has beaten Canelo lately is the weight. An ill-advised jump to light-heavyweight for a fight with Dmitry Bivol ended in a decision defeat.
After dropping back down a division, he’s defended his undisputed status by beating Gennady Golovkin, John Ryder, Jermell Charlo, and Jaime Munguia.
At this point, the 34-year-old has been there, done that and got the T-shirt during his 65-fight career, which started when he was just 15 years old.
The IBF may have stripped him of his title, but there’s not a boxing fan out there that doesn’t believe that Canelo is still the king a super-middleweight.
Alvarez hasn’t scored a KO win in five years and he’s looking to end his barren run by putting Berlanga’s lights out.
“I’m looking to do my best there and let him feel in so much pain, so I’m focused on that,” the boxing superstar recently said.
“I don’t know how quick [the fight will be finished], but I’m going to do my job and let him feel so much pain and then, knock out him. I don’t know what round.”
Edgar Berlanga
Berlanga is priced at +700 to score the upset against Canelo.
The New Yorker’s long odds are due to a combination of factors. Primarily, he’s facing one of the best and most dominant fighters on the planet.
However, they are also a reflection of his inexperience in elite-level fights.
Berlanga famously kicked off his professional career with 16 consecutive first round knockouts. An extraordinary feat that had many people believing he was the next big thing.
Unfortunately for him, that hype died down when he stepped up his competition level and the KO’s dried up – now five of his last fights have gone to the scorecards.
Berlanga even got dropped by Marcelo Esteban Coceres, so it’s easy to understand why the oddsmakers think Canelo could have his way with him on fight night.
Still, he’s just a 27-year-old with a great opportunity standing in front of him.
Stranger things have happened in boxing, and there’ll surely be a bunch of fans taking a punt on Berlanga at such big odds.
Official Prediction
Ultimately, we will be backing Canelo to win in dominant fashion.
Berlanga will probably be a world champion someday, but as far as a first title shot goes, it doesn’t get any tougher than what he’ll face in Las Vegas.
The American’s greatest asset seems to be his KO power, and he stands a punchers chance, although he barely has that against a granite-chinned fighter like Canelo.
We expect Alvarez to get the measure of his opponent in the early rounds before picking up the pace and scoring a stoppage between rounds 6 and 10.
Backing Canelo by KO will slightly bolster your ROI, but not by too much as the powers at be clearly view his scrap with Berlanga as a bit of a mismatch.
